| Graphedit=20
Graphedit is part of the Microsoft Media SDK and = basically=20 let's you use every filter that Media Player and software DVD = players use=20 to play movie and audio files. The package you can download on = this site=20 includes a better MPEG-2 splitter, and all the other necessary = filters to=20 encode the audio of a DVD to a Dolby Surround file, either in = uncompressed=20 PCM WAV or MP3 format using Lame. Unpack the zip file and run register.bat in = order to=20 register all the filters. First I'll describe how to get the audio = directly from the=20 VOB. Later on you'll be able to read what to do if = you already=20 have an ac3 file you whish to decode. Start up Graphedit, then press File - Render = Media File=20 and select one of your VOB files. If you get an error here that = means you=20 don't have a software DVD player installed, and I truly hope you = won't=20 have this problem. Not having a software DVD player is VERY VERY = bad, you=20 can't even test if the ripped VOBs are valid, so make sure you get = one=20 right away, then try it again. Then delete the whole video part of = the=20 graph, basically everything that comes after the MPEG-2 Splitter, = that is=20 the Video Filter and all the overlay stuff. Now press play and = check if=20 you get the right audio track. If not delete the MPEG-2 splitter, = and=20 press Graph - Insert Filters, click on Direct Show Filters and add = the=20 Ligos MPEG splitter. Insert that at the position of the MPEG-2 = splitter=20 you just deleted. Then connect one of the AC3 output pins to the = audio=20 decoder and press play again. You can connect the audio decoder to any AC3 = output of the=20 Ligos splitter and listen to every output until you've find the = right=20 stream. Then delete everything right of the audio decoder and = attach a few=20 other filters:
After having connected it like that (or having the Ligos MPEG =
Splitter=20
in the place of the MPEG-2 splitter) press the play button. Right click on the LAME filter to get to it's properties:
Moving the encoding quality slider to the left will improve = quality at=20 the expense of speed. You can choose VBR if you like, just make = sure you=20 mux with the special VirtualDub version which is capable of muxing = VBR MP3=20 files (actually all are capable but there's only one where the = result will=20 be synch). Once you're done press the play button. Once you're done you're ready for multiplexing. Should you not = use the=20 special version of VirtualDub made to work with VBR MP3 files then = be=20 aware that using VBR MP3s will result in asynch that you can't = possibly=20 fix. >> BACK
If you already have an AC3 = file the=20 procedure is a bit different: After you have got the right ac3 = file start=20 up Graphedit. Press File - Open:
After that=20 if you have installed all filters, you should get something like = that=20 graph: If you press the play button you should hear the = audio=20 file playing. Now press Graph - Insert Filters:
After that you have to delete the Default = DirectSound Device=20 and to reconnect the filters. You can connect two filters by = clicking on=20 the Output rectangle of a filter (on the right side), keep = pressing the=20 mouse button and draw a line to the input of the next filter (on = the left=20 side). Here's how it looks: Connect the filters in the following order: = XingDVD Audio=20 Decoder to WAV Dest, WAV Dest to Dump. In the end it should look = like=20 this:
